In 2014, award-winning social entrepreneur W. Michael Short and university partners announced the launch of a Clinton Foundation-sponsored "Commitment to Action" focused on: (1) accelerating the growth of high impact social enterprises, non-profits, philanthropic ventures, and public / private / foundation partnerships working to have a positive impact in communities throughout the U.S. and the world, and (2) supporting organizations using market-based solutions to solve our planet's most pressing social, environmental, economic, and community challenges.

In 2015, leveraging a global network of over 500 university, institutional, and community collaborators, our Commitment to Action expanded to feature the launch of the Global Social Enterprise Institute at LeMoyne College’s Madden School of Business Center for Global Engagement & Impact. In 2016, the Institute expanded to New York City, in collaboration with the City University of NY, and in 2021 was renamed the Institute for Inclusive & Equitable Community, Economic, & Entrepreneurial Development (“Inclusive Institute”).

The Institute specializes in “trans-disciplinary” collaboration, which facilitates cross-sector public/private partnerships. Our “trans-disciplinary” approach to community, economic, & entrepreneurial development is especially relevant and crucial as our world faces complex challenges requiring dynamic cross-sector solutions.
